A 32-year-old man, identified as Matthew Granado, was killed in a police-involved shooting in Tempe, Arizona, on the evening of December 13, 2024. The incident began around 6:30 p.m. when Tempe police officers recognized Granado, who had an outstanding felony warrant for drug sales, at a Circle K store near Rural and Baseline roads. Granado fled the store in a vehicle but soon exited the car and ran on foot, leading police on a chase.
During the pursuit, Granado fired a gun at the officers, and one officer was struck by a bullet in the leg. In response, police returned fire, hitting Granado, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer who was injured was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent successful surgery. The investigation into the shooting continues.
