Darius Edwards dies in fatal Eunice hit-and-run crash

Darius Edwards, 25, of Eunice, Louisiana, was killed in a hit-and-run crash while riding a motorized scooter on Friday evening, December 13. The tragic incident occurred on South Aymond Street (LA 13) just before 5:30 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Edwards lying unresponsive on the roadway as bystanders attempted CPR. Emergency responders from the Eunice Fire Department and EMS continued life-saving efforts, but Edwards later died at a local hospital due to his injuries.
Witnesses reported that a gray SUV was traveling southbound at high speed in the center turn lane when it struck Edwards, who was riding northbound in the same lane. After briefly stopping for 10-15 seconds, the driver fled the scene, continuing southbound on LA 13.
Thanks to physical evidence at the scene and anonymous tips, police were able to locate the vehicle and apprehend the driver. The suspect’s identity has not been released as the investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.
