Fatal Houston mass shooting death of Azirya Bankhead – Obituary
A 14-year-old girl, Azirya Bankhead, was tragically killed during a mass shooting at a makeshift nightclub in northeast Houston Saturday night. Police responded to the scene around 11:20 p.m. at an empty business on the 10100 block of Jensen Drive, near the Eastex Freeway.
Upon arrival, officers found a chaotic situation with a large crowd of people fleeing the location. The event appeared to be a pop-up party, organized through social media, with most attendees being juveniles. Authorities learned that at least five or six individuals were shot, with Bankhead and a 16-year-old boy succumbing to their injuries. Four other victims, all teenage girls, were injured, with a 13-year-old in critical condition, an 18-year-old in serious condition, and a 17-year-old and 19-year-old both listed as stable.
Charlisa Jones, Bankhead’s mother, expressed her heartbreak, stating, “They killed my baby.”
Bankhead’s brother, Cleshaun Bankhead, recounted the tragic events, describing how he had been with his sister at the party before hearing gunshots. When he returned from the restroom, he found his sister being carried out, already lifeless. The investigation is ongoing.
