A devastating single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning on I-24 East in Montgomery County claimed the lives of two teenagers and left another passenger injured. The crash happened near mile marker 3 at approximately 1:17 a.m., with the first 911 call reported a minute earlier.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s initial investigation revealed that a 2017 Buick LaCrosse was traveling in the second lane of I-24 East when it veered off the road. The vehicle overturned and eventually came to a stop in a wooded area.
The victims were identified as 18-year-old Kevion Deshun Lane, the driver, and 18-year-old Katrell Zion Godfrey, the front-seat passenger. Both were from Tennessee. Authorities confirmed that neither victim was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A third passenger survived with injuries, but further details about their condition have not been released. Investigations are ongoing to determine the factors contributing to the accident.
