Fatal Austin car crash deaths of Ignacio Jaimes-Jaimes and Anthony Benitez-Castaneda – Obituary
Two lives were lost in a tragic rollover collision in southeast Austin on Saturday afternoon. The victims were identified as 75-year-old Ignacio Jaimes-Jaimes, the driver of a sedan, and 18-year-old Anthony Benitez-Castaneda, a passenger in a pickup truck.
The crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of East Stassney Lane and Peppertree Parkway. According to the Austin Police Department, the vehicles collided, and both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are asking for any information related to the incident to be reported to the Austin Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Unit. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Capital Area Crime Stoppers.
This accident marks Austin’s 87th fatal crash of 2024, which has resulted in 93 fatalities so far. Comparatively, at the same time last year, the city had experienced an equal number of fatal crashes but with slightly fewer deaths.
