Fatal Carteret police chase death of Caden Sjobeck – Obituary

An 18-year-old man, Caden Sjobeck, tragically lost his life in a police chase in Carteret County on December 14, 2024. The incident began around 11:22 p.m. when a North Carolina State Highway Patrol officer attempted to pull over a motorcycle for speeding on US 24 near Cedar Point. The motorcyclist, later identified as Sjobeck, fled from the scene, initiating a pursuit.

The chase continued as the motorcyclist reached US 70 near S Lockhart St. in Morehead City, where Sjobeck lost control, collided with a curb, and was ejected from the motorcycle. He was then struck by a Swansboro Police Department patrol car, which was also involved in the pursuit, causing the officer to crash into a utility pole. Sjobeck was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
