Fatal Indianapolis house fire death of Carol S. Lemons – Obituary

An 82-year-old woman, Carol S. Lemons, tragically lost her life in a house fire on Saturday afternoon in southeast Indianapolis. Firefighters responded to the emergency call at 4:41 p.m. at her home on Chisolm Trail. The woman had lived in the single-story residence for over three decades and was checked on daily by family members.

Upon arriving at the scene, fire crews controlled the blaze within 15 minutes but found Lemons deceased. The Marion County Coroner’s Office later confirmed her identity. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although it was reported that the home’s smoke alarms functioned properly.

In Indiana, residential fires have claimed the lives of 84 people in 2023 alone, with a rise in fire reports during winter months due to increased heating. Authorities recommend following safety tips to prevent fires, such as maintaining a three-foot perimeter around space heaters and avoiding leaving them unattended.
