Fatal Summit County hit-skip death of Elizabeth Rock – Obituary

84-year-old Elizabeth Rock from Boston Heights lost her life in a hit-and-run accident in Summit County on December 17, 2024.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. in the 9200 block of Olde Eight Road in Northfield Center Township, when Rock was struck by a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Joseph Zolnowski of Parma. Rock had just left St. Barnabus Church after attending a Christmas concert where her granddaughter performed. After hitting Rock, Zolnowski fled the scene, but witnesses immediately rendered first aid until emergency responders arrived. Rock was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after. Zolnowski turned himself in the following day and faces charges for leaving the scene of the accident.

The community, especially at St. Barnabus, mourns Rock’s loss and continues to pray for her family.
