Fatal Kamaka Air crash near Honolulu airport death of Hiram DeFries and Preston Kaluhiwa – Obituary

Hiram DeFries, a pilot in training from Papakolea and a 2020 Punahou School graduate, and Preston Kaluhiwa, a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, were both tragically killed in a plane crash near the Daniel K.

Inouye International Airport on December 17, 2024. The incident occurred in the afternoon when the Kamaka Air cargo plane crashed, leading to their deaths.

DeFries’ family confirmed his identity, expressing grief as family and friends gathered at Kamaka Air’s headquarters. Kaluhiwa’s family also mourned the loss of the young pilot. Witnesses reported the scene as one of great sorrow. More information on the incident will be provided as the investigation continues.
