Fatal Gary shooting death of Margaret Mary Sangerman – Obituary
A 73-year-old woman was fatally shot at her residence in the 1100 block of N. Warren Street in Gary on Wednesday evening. Lake County Coroner’s officials identified the victim as Margaret Mary Sangerman. An autopsy confirmed she died from multiple gunshot wounds, with her death ruled a homicide.
According to Gary police, officers responded to a call around 7:18 p.m. and arrived to find a 69-year-old man lying in the yard with a gunshot wound. As officers secured the scene, they noticed blood leading into the home, where they found Sangerman inside, also suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims, who were homeowners at the location, were taken to the hospital, but Sangerman later died. Police stated that the suspect, a Black male wearing a coat and ski mask, stole the victims’ blue Nissan Exterra after the shooting.
