A 62-year-old man from Joliet, identified as Robert Redmond, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday night. The incident occurred at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Chicago Street when Redmond, a pedestrian, was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
The Joliet Police Department responded to the crash around 9:30 p.m., where they discovered Redmond lying on the sidewalk with critical injuries. An ambulance from the Joliet Fire Department quickly transported him to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses reported that Redmond was crossing Chicago Street heading east when he was hit by a silver sedan traveling northbound at a high speed.
