Fatal discovery of Andrew Gavin Warwick on DUI sentencing day – Obituary
Andrew Gavin Warwick of Williamstown was discovered deceased at his residence on the day he was set to face sentencing for charges related to a DUI crash. Warwick, whose address was listed as 589 Old River Road, was found dead last Friday.
According to Wood County Sheriff Rick Woodyard, emergency responders arrived at Warwick’s home following a report of a deceased individual. Sheriff Woodyard confirmed there were no indications of foul play.
Warwick was due to appear in Wood County Circuit Court before Judge Jason Wharton. He had previously entered a guilty plea for driving under the influence, which resulted in a crash causing severe injuries to another driver.
The incident occurred on November 29, 2023, near the 16.5-mile marker of the Robert Byrd Highway. Warwick, driving a 2021 Toyota Tacoma in the wrong direction, collided with a 2022 Kia Niro, severely injuring its driver, Brianna L. Jones of Pennsboro.
Investigators reported Warwick exhibited signs of intoxication at the crash scene, including slurred speech and the smell of alcohol. An open can of “Cryo Ranger IPA” was found in his vehicle, and Warwick admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening. He declined to participate in field sobriety tests.
If sentenced, Warwick faced 2-10 years in prison, a fine of $1,000-$3,000, and a five-year license revocation. Wood County Prosecutor Pat Lefebure stated that charges are typically dismissed when a defendant is deceased.
