Fatal San Diego helicopter crash claims the life of Jeffrey Kanas – Obituary
Jeffrey Kanas, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air Interdiction Agent, tragically lost his life on Monday during a border security mission near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego County.
Kanas was the sole occupant of the CBP Air and Marine Operations Airbus helicopter when it went down in a private field at Sol Valley Ranch, near Round Potrero Road, around 11:20 a.m. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash, described as an aviation mishap, is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
Kanas was serving in the line of duty, committed to protecting the border. His passing marks the second helicopter crash in San Diego County this year, following a February incident that claimed the lives of five U.S. Marines.
