Travis L. Delamater dies in fatal Towanda Township DUI crash
Fatal Towanda Township DUI crash death of Travis L. Delamater – Obituary.
A DUI-related crash in Towanda Township on July 30 claimed the life of 39-year-old Travis L. Delamater, as he stood beside a parked vehicle along South Main Street near Liberty Corners Road.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, Delamater was standing by the rear passenger side of a legally parked 2016 Kia Sorento around 10 p.m. when a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado veered off the travel lane and struck him. The driver of the Silverado, Charles F. Scott, 39, of Columbia Cross Roads, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Delamater was placing a 4-year-old child into a car seat when the collision occurred. The child and their mother, 33-year-old Angela Baker of Towanda, were also outside the vehicle and sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Scott had been drinking at a nearby bar shortly before the incident. Authorities found an open bottle of beer near his vehicle. At the time of the crash, he was already under investigation for another DUI offense from the previous month.
Scott has since been sentenced to a minimum of five years and three months, up to a maximum of 20 and a half years, for charges including homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence, reckless endangerment, and multiple DUI offenses.
Bradford County District Attorney Richard Wilson expressed sorrow over the tragedy, noting that while the sentences were the maximum allowed by law, no punishment could undo the damage caused by Scott’s actions.
