Brandon Montez Mcilwain dies in fatal Hoover shooting
Fatal Hoover shooting death of Brandon Montez Mcilwain – Obituary
Authorities in Hoover, Alabama, have identified 35-year-old Brandon Montez Mcilwain as the victim of a Christmas Eve shooting. Police responded to a 911 call at an apartment on Rime Village Drive around 11 p.m., where they found Mcilwain suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders, including Hoover Fire Department paramedics, attempted life-saving measures before Mcilwain was transported to UAB Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The suspect, 29-year-old Anthony Keith Russell, was detained at the scene. Investigators believe the two, who were acquaintances, were involved in a physical altercation that escalated when Russell allegedly fired shots, one of which fatally struck Mcilwain.
Russell has been charged with murder and is being held at the Hoover City Jail pending transfer to the Jefferson County Jail. This marks the first non-traffic-related homicide in Hoover since October 2022. Police continue to investigate the incident.
