A tragic accident in South Ozone Park, Queens, has claimed the life of 51-year-old Vidya Dookran-Franco. The incident occurred early Saturday morning when a Honda Accord and a yellow taxi collided at the intersection of 115th Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard.
The taxi mounted the sidewalk, hitting three pedestrians, including Dookran-Franco, who was later pronounced dead from her injuries at Jamaica Hospital. The other two victims, men aged 44 and 49, were reported in stable condition.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but no criminal activity is suspected. Family members of Dookran-Franco described her as loving and always spreading joy to those around her. A vigil is planned for Sunday in her memory.
