Joseph M. Depner dies in fatal Wonder Lake car crash

Fatal Wonder Lake car crash death of Joseph M. Depner – Obituary.

Joseph M. Depner, a 49-year-old resident of Wonder Lake, lost his life in a head-on collision on Friday afternoon. The crash occurred in the 7300 block of Barnard Mill Road around 12:35 p.m., according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary investigations revealed that Depner’s Mazda 6 veered across the center line and collided with a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 65-year-old man from Naples, Florida.

Depner’s vehicle left the roadway, coming to rest in a wooded area, while the Silverado remained on the road. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles. Tragically, Depner was pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force injuries, as confirmed by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office following an autopsy.

The Florida driver was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital in stable condition. Authorities, including the Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, are continuing to investigate the incident.
