The Denton Police Department identified Cody Allen Stewart, a 19-year-old graduate of Denton High School, as the victim of a fatal shooting on Normal Street this past Sunday.
Emergency responders were called to a duplex in the 200 block of Normal Street around 1:12 p.m., following a 911 call from a female resident reporting an unresponsive male outside the home. Stewart was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
According to police, the incident stemmed from a disturbance between Stewart and a male resident of the duplex. The male resident, believed to be the shooter, has not been arrested as of Monday evening. Authorities are still investigating the nature of their relationship and whether any criminal charges will be filed.
Cody’s sister, Morghan Stewart, shared memories of her brother, describing him as a kind soul with a bright smile who loved football, fishing, and music. She revealed that Cody, originally from Lubbock, Texas, had lived at the duplex previously but no longer resided there. She and Cody had reconnected recently, speaking just hours before the tragedy occurred.
Cody graduated from Denton High School in 2023 and is remembered fondly by those who knew him.
