Fatal Godfrey train accident death of David A. Sproull – Obituary
David A. Sproull, a 28-year-old resident of Godfrey, tragically lost his life on the morning of December 28, 2024, after being struck by a train while walking along the railroad tracks. The incident took place near the 600 block of Big Arch Road in Godfrey.
Emergency responders arrived around 8:30 a.m. and found Sproull had already passed, with the time of death being confirmed as 9:00 a.m. Due to the location, responders had to use a UTV to access the site. Preliminary reports indicate blunt head trauma as the cause of death, but toxicology results will be used to confirm the final cause.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation into the incident.
