Authorities in Richmond, Kentucky, have confirmed the death of 42-year-old Gracela Valera Dejesus after she was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at the Eastern Bypass intersection near Cookout, as she attempted to cross South Killarney Lane.
The Madison County Coroner arrived at the scene and pronounced her dead shortly after. According to police, the driver of the vehicle involved is fully cooperating with the investigation, and preliminary tests indicate no signs of impairment.
As a result of the collision, the eastbound lanes near South Killarney Lane and Lancaster Avenue were temporarily closed while the Richmond Police Department’s collision reconstruction unit conducted their investigation. The case remains under investigation as further details become available.
