A tragic shooting occurred early on January 1, 2025, in Fort Worth when Joel Kieth Simmonds, a man in his 40s, was fatally shot by his estranged wife. The incident took place in the 8800 block of Sabinas Trail around 1:07 a.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, Fort Worth police identified the suspect leaving the home and detained her. They found Simmonds inside the house with a gunshot wound to his torso. Despite attempts to save him, Simmonds was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Simmonds and his wife were in the process of getting a divorce but were still living together. The shooting stemmed from a heated argument between the two, during which the wife and a witness retreated to a bathroom. Simmonds reportedly forced his way into the bathroom, and his wife shot him in self-defense. The Fort Worth Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
