Matthew Livelsberger, an active-duty U.S. Army soldier, lost his life in a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside President-elect Donald Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The incident also injured seven bystanders.
Authorities identified Livelsberger through military ID, credit cards, and tattoos, although his remains were severely burned. Sheriff Kevin McMahill revealed that Livelsberger suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head before the truck detonated. The weapon was located near his body.
Livelsberger, a master sergeant with the Green Berets, had served in the Army since 2006, completing multiple overseas deployments, including Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Congo. He was on approved leave from active duty in Germany with the 10th Special Forces Group at the time of the incident.
Two firearms, purchased days before the explosion, were found in the Cybertruck, which also contained gas canisters, camp fuel, and firework mortars. Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the explosion but are examining potential links to other incidents involving military personnel.
