Baton Rouge native Reggie Hunter was among the victims of the tragic New Year’s Day assault in New Orleans, as confirmed by his cousin, Shirell Jackson, who shared the news with NewsNation.
Jackson described Reggie as a beloved individual—an outstanding father, supportive brother, caring son, and the life of any gathering, always known for his great sense of humor that made everyone laugh. She expressed her sorrow, calling it “unfair and unjust” for Reggie’s life to end so abruptly.
Jackson first learned of his injury from another cousin, Travis Hunter, who spoke with NewsNation about the tragedy. Initially, they heard that Reggie had been shot, and Jackson prayed he would recover, but the doctors later informed them that he had passed away due to internal injuries after being run over.
Jackson later identified Reggie at the hospital, as his sister had chosen not to do so. At the hospital, Jackson observed multiple families grieving as they received similar devastating news about their loved ones affected by the attack.
