Fatal Harris County police chase crash death of Alexander Romero – Obituary

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has identified 16-year-old Alexander Romero as the driver killed in a deadly police chase on Wednesday night in northwest Harris County. Romero was in a 2019 Kia Sorrento with five other teens, all aged between 14 and 16, when the crash occurred.

Authorities reported that the vehicle had been reported stolen on New Year’s Eve. A deputy spotted the car, and a brief pursuit ensued, lasting under a minute before the vehicle collided with a tree on the 3900 block of Rolling Terrace Drive near Kuykendahl and Cypresswood.

Romero and one other teen died at the scene, while the remaining three were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. They are expected to recover.

Investigators discovered gloves, face masks, and hammers inside the vehicle, suggesting possible criminal activity. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into both the crash and the car theft.
