Charles “Charlie” G. Fletcher Jr., 72, of Laguna Beach, California, was identified as the snowboarder who tragically lost his life at Schweitzer ski resort. The Bonner County Coroner determined that Fletcher’s death resulted from accidental asphyxia caused by snow immersion in a tree well.

 

Fletcher was reported missing near the Detention ski run in the Outback Bowl section of the resort around 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Schweitzer Ski Patrol discovered his body with the assistance of another skier in the area.

 

As the founder of Mesa Energy Systems, a company specializing in HVAC maintenance and sustainable energy solutions, Fletcher made significant contributions to his industry. His career began in 1978, and he established his company in 1983 after years of working as a sheet metal worker, sales engineer, and operations manager.

 

Fletcher earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the State University of New York, Cortland. He was a devoted husband of 34 years and father of two sons. Known for his adventurous spirit, Fletcher enjoyed snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, surfing, and reading.

 

Friends and loved ones mourned his passing, with tributes posted on social media. One heartfelt message referred to Fletcher as a dedicated family man who inspired many through his passion for life and energy conservation efforts.

 

The ski resort extended condolences to Fletcher’s family and friends, expressing sorrow over the tragic incident.
