The Lafayette Police Department has confirmed that 20-year-old Cierra Robertson of Lafayette was the victim in a fatal crash on the 900 block of NW Evangeline Thruway earlier today.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound Ford F-450, traveling in the middle lane, struck Robertson, who was riding a bicycle along the sidewalk next to the inside lane. For reasons still unclear, Robertson veered into the roadway, where she collided with the driver’s side of the truck.
She was run over by the vehicle’s driver’s side tires and was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck’s driver was taken to the Lafayette Police Department, where a breath sample showed a 0.00g% blood alcohol concentration.
Authorities do not believe impairment played a role in the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
