Edward Pettifer, a 31-year-old man from Chelsea, London, tragically lost his life in a horrifying New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans.
Pettifer was among 14 people killed when a man drove a pickup truck into a crowd in the popular Bourbon Street area around 3:15 a.m. local time. At least 35 others were injured in the assault before the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was fatally shot by police.
Pettifer’s family expressed their grief, describing him as a wonderful son, brother, and friend, and asked for privacy during their mourning.
The preliminary cause of death was listed as blunt force injuries. Authorities are supporting the family in bringing Pettifer’s body back to the UK.
