Authorities have confirmed that 5-year-old Finn Katona tragically lost his life after being struck by a school bus Thursday morning near Silver Spring Intermediate School in Sussex, Wisconsin.
According to a statement from Hamilton School District Superintendent Paul Mielke, the young boy was a 4K student who was at the intermediate school to transfer to a shuttle bus bound for Willow Springs Learning Center. The district expressed sympathy for Katona’s family, urging the community to respect their privacy during this difficult time.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department reported that the bus was carrying students when the incident occurred, and the driver involved is cooperating fully with investigators. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the driver faces any charges. Dairyland-Hamilton and the sheriff’s department have not responded to inquiries regarding possible citations or arrests.
In memory of Finn, a prayer vigil will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sussex. Community members are invited to attend and offer their support to the grieving family.
