Fatal Racine County Jail assault death of Joseph Lee – Obituary
On New Year’s Day 2025, 35-year-old Joseph Lee was pronounced dead following a violent assault at the Racine County Jail. Lee, who had been in custody awaiting trial for charges unrelated to the assault, was reportedly beaten by 29-year-old Davonte M. Carraway.
Carraway, already incarcerated on attempted homicide charges, is expected to face a charge of first-degree intentional homicide. The attack, which lasted less than a minute, occurred in the jail’s dayroom.
Despite safety checks and functional emergency buttons, no inmates activated alarms during the assault. The incident is under investigation by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.
