Fatal West Valley City shooting deaths of Kerry Bertelsen, Terri Bertelsen, and Erik Bertelsen – Obituary
Police have identified the victims of a tragic shooting incident in West Valley City on January 1. Kerry Bertelsen, 67, and Terri Bertelsen, 63, were found dead inside their home near 3330 W Enterado Avenue. Their 35-year-old son, Erik Bertelsen, was shot and killed by police during the encounter.
Officers responded to a 911 call from the residence at approximately 5:12 p.m. and discovered the couple’s bodies. They then encountered Erik Bertelsen, who was identified as the suspect in the homicide of his parents. Police fatally shot him after the encounter.
The investigation into the deaths of Kerry and Terri Bertelsen, as well as the officer-involved shooting, is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released further details about the motives behind the killings.
The Salt Lake County Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol team is handling the investigation into the police shooting.
