Fatal McPherson County wrong-way crash death of Lydia Barton – Obituary
A devastating wrong-way collision on Interstate 135 south of Salina early Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of four people, including 31-year-old Lydia Barton of Wichita. The crash occurred around 12:25 a.m. near the Saline/McPherson County line when a Honda CR-Z compact SUV, driven by 36-year-old Jacob Aich of Hutchinson, was traveling south in the northbound lanes and struck a Toyota RAV 4 SUV head-on.
Lydia Barton, along with two young passengers, 13-year-old Jesse Kinney and 7-year-old Ronan Barton, both from Monument, Colorado, died in the crash. Jacob Aich, the driver of the wrong-way vehicle, was also killed.
A passenger in the Honda, 29-year-old Kirkland Byers of Hutchinson, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Salina. The Kansas Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the tragic incident.
