Fatal house fire in Vernon claims the life of Penny Davies – Obituary
Penny Davies, 78, tragically lost her life in a house fire early Monday morning at her residence on Route 5 in Vernon, New York. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her identity following the devastating blaze, which was reported at 3:10 a.m. on December 30.
The fire, believed to have started in the garage about 30 minutes before being noticed by a passing sheriff’s deputy, quickly engulfed the home. Firefighters, led by Vernon Fire Chief Scott Nell, arrived to find the house fully involved in flames. They fought the fire for several hours before it was extinguished, at which point Penny’s body was discovered inside.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the state Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
