Fatal San Francisco police shooting death of Peter Francis Hodge Jr. – Obituary
Peter Francis Hodge Jr., a former Connecticut emergency dispatcher, was shot and killed by San Francisco police after allegedly hitting three pedestrians with his SUV and later pointing a firearm at officers. The incident began around 6:30 p.m. on December 19, when Hodge drove onto a sidewalk near Kearny and Post streets, injuring a woman and a young girl. Shortly after, he reportedly struck a bicyclist near Sutter and Kearny streets before fleeing.
Officers responded promptly, providing medical aid to the injured pedestrians, who were then taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Surveillance footage captured Hodge placing the bicyclist’s bike into the back of his SUV and driving off.
At approximately 1:35 a.m. on December 20, authorities located the damaged SUV near Grant Avenue and Post Street. When police approached Hodge near a luxury store, he ignored their commands and behaved evasively. Non-lethal methods, including a BolaWrap and beanbag rounds, were used in an attempt to subdue him. However, as officers shouted warnings, Hodge allegedly drew a gun, prompting officers to fire.
A weapon was recovered at the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.
