The search for 21-year-old Ayabonga Mjilo, who had been missing since December 23, 2024, ended in tragedy when her body was found in a shallow grave in eNanda, KwaZulu-Natal. Authorities confirmed that Mjilo was last seen on Christmas morning leaving a restaurant in Umhlanga with a man later identified as her manager.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal police, revealed that detectives traced the suspect to his residence in Amaotana, where evidence pointed to an argument that escalated into violence. The man reportedly strangled Mjilo and concealed her remains on his property.
Following an extensive investigation, the 37-year-old suspect was arrested on January 4, 2025. He is now facing charges of murder, abduction, and obstruction of justice. The case has stirred deep sorrow within the local community, with many expressing their grief over Mjilo’s untimely death.
