Fatal Yorktown hit-and-run death of Jennifer Proeschel – Obituary

Jennifer Proeschel, a 42-year-old resident of Mohegan Lake, tragically died after being struck by a vehicle on East Main Street near Mohegan Avenue on the night of January 3.

Yorktown police responded to the scene around 8:06 p.m. and, with the help of Yorktown Paramedics, the Mohegan Fire Department, and Mohegan Ambulance, provided immediate medical assistance. Proeschel was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

 

An investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Jake Barak of Cortlandt Manor, had been heading westbound on East Main Street when he struck Proeschel and fled the scene.

Utilizing resources from the Westchester County Police Accident Investigation Unit and the Real Time Crime Center, authorities were able to locate the vehicle and identify Barak as the suspected driver. The investigation into the incident continues.
