Joy and Jade die in fatal Leyte drowning incidents
Fatal Leyte drowning deaths of Joy and Jade – Obituary
Two young girls, Joy, 10, and Jade, 9, tragically lost their lives in separate drowning incidents in Leyte on Sunday, January 5.
The two girls, residents of Dagami town, fell into an open drainage canal near the National Irrigation System in Barangay Banayon.
The pair had left their homes around 6 p.m., intending to buy candy, but by 8 p.m., Joy had not returned.
Her father, upon searching, discovered her lifeless body floating in the canal at 10:10 p.m. Shortly after, Jade’s father found her body in the same canal. Both were declared dead on arrival by medical staff at the Dagami rural health unit.
Meanwhile, three other minors from Burauen, Leyte, survived a separate drowning incident at a beach in Barangay Rizal.
They were swept by strong waves, but quick action by local nurses and the Philippine Coast Guard helped stabilize them before they were rushed to nearby hospitals.
