Fatal rollover crash near Torrington claims life of Melvin White – Obituary
Melvin White, an 89-year-old Wyoming resident, tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle rollover accident on December 30 along State Highway 159 north of Torrington.
According to a preliminary report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the crash occurred sometime after 3 a.m. near the junction of Highway 159 and Buttermilk Road. White’s Toyota Rav4 reportedly left the roadway while navigating a sharp curve marked by warning signs suggesting a 40-mph exit speed. The vehicle struck an earthen embankment, vaulted across the highway, and became airborne before landing in a field. It then flipped end over end upon impact.
Investigators noted that White was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Speed and driver distraction are being considered as possible factors. Additionally, road conditions may have been wet when the incident occurred.
This accident marks the 108th roadway fatality in Wyoming for 2024. Officials continue to investigate, and the details of the crash may be updated as more information becomes available.
