Fatal Pasadena car crash death of William Yost – Obituary

Authorities have identified William Yost, a 31-year-old believed to have resided in Altadena, as one of two victims who lost their lives in a fiery multi-vehicle crash on Sunday morning. The collision, reportedly caused by a wrong-way driver, took place on the westbound 134 Freeway near San Rafael Avenue in Pasadena.

The incident, which occurred around 8:10 a.m., began when a vehicle entered the freeway from the San Rafael off-ramp, traveling in the wrong direction. California Highway Patrol logs indicate that a white sedan struck a silver minivan and two other vehicles, leading to an explosion on impact. Three other individuals sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Witnesses, including a driver in a silver Volvo, described the moment of collision and the resulting fiery wreckage. First responders from the Pasadena Police Department arrived promptly, assisting in both rescue operations and managing traffic.

At least four vehicles were involved in the crash, including a Honda and a Toyota Prius. Some of the vehicles were so extensively damaged that they could not be immediately identified by emergency crews.

City spokesperson Lisa Derderian noted the severity of the crash, calling it one of the most devastating incidents local first responders have encountered.

The collision caused significant traffic delays, particularly affecting the Colorado Street Bridge area. A Sigalert, issued at 8:34 a.m. to close the westbound lanes at Orange Grove Boulevard, remained in place until 1:08 p.m.
