Fatal Yankton, South Dakota, murder death of Heather Bodden – Obituary

More details have emerged about the tragic death of Heather Bodden, whose body was discovered in her Yankton apartment last week. Last Thursday, police were called to the East Meadow Apartments on Memory Lane after three women arrived to check on Bodden and found her decapitated.

Investigators reviewed security footage showing Bodden’s boyfriend, 32-year-old Craig Allen Nichols, Jr., entering and exiting the apartment complex multiple times while carrying trash bags, eventually leaving the area.

During a search, authorities discovered one of the bags contained the victim’s head.

One of the women who visited Bodden’s apartment told police that Bodden had sent a message on Wednesday, claiming that her boyfriend had threatened her with a weapon.

Nichols was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. He is currently being held in Yankton County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond, with a court hearing set for January 8.

The family has announced a public memorial service for Bodden, which will take place on Friday, January 10, at 5 p.m. at Wintz and Ray Funeral Home in Yankton.

While the family declined an interview, they shared a statement honoring her as a loving mother, sister, daughter, and friend.
