The body of 32-year-old Indian journalist and YouTuber Mukesh Chandrakar, known for his reports on corruption in the construction industry, was discovered in a septic tank on January 5 in Bijapur. His family had reported him missing on New Year’s Day.
The septic tank was located on the property of Suresh Chandrakar, a construction contractor and relative of Mukesh.
Police, who tracked his phone to locate the body, found that the tank had been recently covered with concrete slabs. Evidence of blunt force trauma suggests foul play, and authorities believe his death may be linked to his investigative work on a road-construction scam.
Suresh Chandrakar, the prime suspect, was arrested in Hyderabad on Sunday night, along with three others, including two of his siblings.
The death has sparked outrage among Indian journalists, with calls for a thorough investigation and better safety measures for reporters working on dangerous stories.
