Authorities are investigating after a woman, identified as Rachael Loken, was fatally shot in the West End area of Moore County.

The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. Friday when deputies responded to a report of an accidental shooting on Longleaf Drive in the Seven Lakes West Subdivision.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered Loken suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by emergency medical personnel, she was pronounced dead at the location.

On Monday, officials confirmed that Loken had been struck by a bullet fired by her husband, Christopher Loken, while she was in another room.

Although the shooting was initially described as accidental, law enforcement is continuing a comprehensive investigation to uncover the full details surrounding the tragic event.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office indicated that additional updates would be shared as the inquiry continues.
