Fatal Gilroy car crash death of Rachel Marie Gonzalez Gallegos – Obituary

Rachel Marie Gonzalez Gallegos, a 29-year-old expectant mother from Gilroy, tragically lost her life in a car accident on New Year’s Day.

According to her uncle, she was traveling with her husband and their young son at the time of the incident.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Leavesley Road and New Avenue, an area that residents have described as hazardous.

Ruben Gonzalez, a longtime Gilroy resident, noted that the intersection can be particularly perilous for inattentive drivers.

Heavy traffic is common on Leavesley Road, and navigating through the area can take significantly longer than it used to.

The California Highway Patrol reported that Gallegos was a passenger in a 2021 Chevrolet SUV driven by her husband, Gonzalez Mora.

Around 6:35 p.m., a GMC truck allegedly driven at high speed by 50-year-old Mr. Temores veered into oncoming traffic, striking Mora’s SUV head-on. The collision also involved a third vehicle driven by 34-year-old Mr. Tobar.

In a heartfelt social media post, David Gallegos, who identified himself as Rachel’s uncle, expressed his sorrow, stating, “We received the kind of news no one ever expects to hear. An accident has taken my niece, who was soon to become a mother of two, from us.”

Tyler Luht, a fellow Gilroy resident, mentioned that although traffic on Leavesley Road isn’t typically heavy, he never considered it a dangerous route before this incident. He suggested that adding a stoplight might improve safety at the intersection.

At this time, it is unclear whether Rachel’s husband, her son, or the third driver sustained any injuries. The alleged at-fault driver, Mr. Temores, was taken into custody and is being held at Santa Clara County Jail without bail.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the Gallegos family. Authorities have asked anyone with dash-cam footage of the crash to contact the CHP Hollister/Gilroy office.
