Fatal North Adams accident death of Christopher Barton – Obituary
Christopher Barton, a barber and musician from North Adams, tragically lost his life Sunday night in a rare and unfortunate accident.
The 51-year-old, well-known for owning Klipper Kingz barbershop and his musical talent, was fatally injured when his car rolled over him while he was performing maintenance on it.
According to Interim Police Chief Mark Bailey, Barton was working on his car around 8 p.m. on Bradley Street, a notably steep road, when the vehicle unexpectedly rolled over him. Authorities confirmed that no one else was operating the car at the time of the incident.
“It was truly a freak accident,” Bailey said, noting that Barton was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident is currently under investigation by the State Police accident reconstruction team to determine the exact cause of the mishap.
Emergency responders, including city police and firefighters, collaborated to free Barton from beneath the vehicle as quickly as possible.
The fire department used specialized equipment, including chock blocks and hydraulic tools commonly referred to as the Jaws of Life, to lift the car.
Barton’s death has deeply affected the North Adams community, where he was well-regarded for his contributions to both the local music scene and his barbershop business.
