Juanita Gutierrez dies in fatal Bakersfield shooting
Fatal Bakersfield shooting death of Juanita Gutierrez – Obituary
On Saturday, December 28, two individuals were found dead in a tragic incident at a residence on the 2900 block of Hosking Avenue in Bakersfield. The victims were identified by the Kern County Coroner as 62-year-old Juanita Gutierrez and 54-year-old Carlos Rafael Cardenas.
According to Bakersfield police, Gutierrez died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Cardenas succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators have not yet determined the exact time of the incident or the nature of the relationship between the two victims.
Five days after the shooting, a fire broke out at the same home. The Bakersfield Fire Department quickly extinguished the small blaze, and fortunately, no one was inside the residence at the time. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Gutierrez’s death marks the 72nd homicide in Kern County for 2024 and the fourth murder-suicide case this year. In July, a man and woman were found dead in South Bakersfield, and in late October, two women and two men, who were veterans and brothers, were discovered dead in separate incidents. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
