Fatal Little Rock police shooting death of Sidney Glasper – Obituary
Sidney Glasper, 43, was fatally shot by Little Rock police on January 1 after reportedly advancing toward officers with a knife.
Officers Jesse Hurtado and Zachary Nelson, who were assisting in a stabbing investigation at the time, encountered Glasper near 1624 Broadway around 8:33 p.m. and fired after he ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon.
Authorities stated that Glasper was suspected of stabbing two women, 64-year-old MaryAnn Hansen and his mother, Marcia Glasper, just minutes before the confrontation with police.
Hansen, a neighbor who lived at 2108 S. State Street, was found dead at the scene, while Marcia Glasper, who resides at 2104 S. State Street, was hospitalized for treatment of her injuries.
Police reported that Glasper, covered in blood and matching the description of the suspect, was found about half a mile from the location of the stabbings.
Upon responding to the incident at Marcia Glasper’s home, officers discovered a 2017 Ford Explorer crashed into Hansen’s residence, resulting in a gas leak. The circumstances surrounding the vehicle and its owner remain unclear.
Despite officers’ efforts to administer first aid, Sidney Glasper was pronounced dead at the scene following the shooting.
Both Hurtado and Nelson were placed on administrative leave, per departmental protocol, while investigations into the stabbings and officer-involved shooting continue.
