Fatal Spring-area police chase deaths of Christopher Granados, Justin Cruz, and Alexander Romero – Obituary
A high-speed police pursuit early Thursday ended tragically when 14-year-olds Christopher Granados and Justin Cruz, along with 16-year-old Alexander Romero, lost their lives after the vehicle they were in crashed into a tree.
The incident took place in the Spring area and involved Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Three other teenage passengers were critically injured and transported to a local hospital.
The crash occurred after deputies attempted to stop a stolen 2019 Kia Sorrento on Sorrel Ridge Drive. The vehicle, driven by Romero, reportedly reached speeds of 90 miles per hour before veering off the road and hitting a large tree on Rolling Terrace Drive.
None of the six teenagers in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts. Paramedics pronounced Granados, Cruz, and Romero dead at the scene.
Funeral services have been arranged for the victims. Romero’s family is hosting a public service on January 12 at Iglesia Cristiana Un Nuevo Comienzo en Cristo. Services for Cruz are scheduled for January 9, with two GoFundMe pages created to support his family. A fundraiser for Granados has also been established, though details about his funeral have not yet been released.
According to Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deputy Thomas Gilliland, the surviving passengers are expected to recover from their injuries. Their identities have not been disclosed due to privacy regulations.
An internal investigation is underway to determine whether proper protocols were followed during the pursuit. The department’s Pursuit Review Board will review the incident, while the investigations continue.
