Fatal Sevier County residential fire deaths of Esperanza Gutierrez and Mateo Gutierrez – Obituary
Esperanza Gutierrez, 15, and Mateo Gutierrez, 8, tragically lost their lives in a residential fire on December 30 in Sevier County, Tennessee.
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed their identities after responding to a 911 call about the blaze around 9:30 a.m. Firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.
Authorities determined that the fire was accidental, caused by a kerosene heater being used to warm the lower part of the house. Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters expressed condolences to the Gutierrez family, extending thoughts and prayers to those impacted by the tragic event.
The fire investigation involved several agencies, including the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, Sevier County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Multiple fire departments and emergency services also responded to the scene.
