Fatal Sunnyside shooting death of Isabel Rodriguez – Obituary

Isabel Rodriguez, 18, was tragically killed in a shooting on Tuesday afternoon in Sunnyside. Yakima Chief Deputy Coroner Marshall Slight confirmed her identity.

According to police, two men approached her car at the intersection of North Avenue and McClain Alley and opened fire.

Despite her injuries, Rodriguez managed to drive to 16th Street and North Avenue before her vehicle came to a stop.

Emergency crews arrived and attempted to save her, but she was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to Astria Sunnyside Hospital.

Following the shooting, officers responded to additional reports of gunfire at two other locations, which authorities suspect were efforts to distract law enforcement.

During their search, officers and K-9 units recovered a weapon and discarded clothing. One suspect was apprehended after a reported burglary on Rouse Road, while another was taken into custody later in the evening.

In response to the incident, the Sunnyside Police Department expedited the launch of its Street Crimes Unit, reinstating it on January 8. Investigators are currently working to determine if the shooting was gang-related.

On January 9, police identified the suspects as 18-year-olds Andrae Carreon of Mabton and Angel Placencia-Gutierrez of Sunnyside. Both are in custody and facing charges of first-degree murder and firearm-related offenses.

The investigation remains active. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact Detective Noriega at 509-836-6200, referencing case number #25S00186.
