Fatal Honeysuckle Road hit-and-run death of Marcus Gaddis – Obituary

Marcus Gaddis, 79, a retired professor from Troy University, was struck and killed Tuesday night on Honeysuckle Road in Houston County.

According to Coroner Robert Byrd, Gaddis may have stopped to retrieve something from the road when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver involved in the collision fled the scene before police arrived.

 

Police later confirmed that Gaddis had stopped in the 800 block of Honeysuckle Road for unknown reasons.

After exiting his vehicle, he dropped papers, some of which blew into the road. While attempting to pick them up, he was fatally struck by a vehicle described by witnesses as a dark-colored Chevrolet SUV, possibly a Tahoe.

 

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or driver to contact the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3632.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Central Alabama Crimestoppers at 334-215-STOP or P3TIPS.com. Crimestoppers is offering rewards for tips leading to an arrest.

Additionally, local auto body repair shops are being asked to remain vigilant for vehicles matching the description and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

 

The case remains under investigation.
