On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, 42-year-old Shawn Lee Baker was shot and killed by Salem police officers at an apartment complex near River Road North and Stark Street in Salem, Oregon. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. after Baker, who was reportedly armed with a handgun, was pursued by officers.
The Oregon State Police (OSP) identified the officers involved as Chad Galusha and John Diaz. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in such cases.
Family members shared that Baker had visited their business next door earlier that day, mentioning he was hungry. That was the last time they saw him alive.
OSP is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting, and additional details about the confrontation have not yet been released.
